About

Hey, I’m Jude

I'm passionate about retro clothing and have been styling customers in New South Wales, Australia, since 2006.

My retro journey began with the opening of my store 'Something for Doris' - a vintage style clothing, shoes and accessories boutique in Wollongong, New South Wales. The name came from my English Bull Terrier- Doris. She came to the shop with me and all of Wollongong knew her. I really loved my shop, my customers and my Doris. As a crazy dog lady - I also created and operated the annual vintage themed event 'The Vintage Ball for Doris' to raise money for dog rescue. I continue to support dog rescues with monthly donations.

In 2012 I started to gravitate from stockist to designer- creating my own retro/vintage inspired clothing designs which were sold in store and online. In November 2017 I took a break, resting with the seed of a fresh concept for my clothing brand.

Then, one day I was waiting for a coffee at North Beach Kiosk and the barista sang…'Hey Jude' by the Beatles over the microphone to let me know it was ready. That moment it popped into my mind, that was the perfect name for my new label.

With a focus on retro aesthetics, Hey Jude Designs is inspired by the strong, feminine shapes and fabrics of the 1960s-1970s. In creating my range, I reflect on the relationships I have with great women who love to feel individual and confident in my clothes.

I opened my store The Retro Room in July 2019. The store is located at 2/128 Terralong St Kiama NSW 2533. The decision to open the store was my calling to get back to styling people in person, being surrounded by my community and stocking beautiful accessories to go with my labels.

I have had a cardigan range for some time and this year, 2023, I have renamed it Raven Stole the Moon. Ravens are my favourite bird, they are intelligent, witty and mystical. The name comes from a Native American legend about the raven stealing back the Sun, Moon and Stars from a King who kept them hidden in boxes, thus illuminating the world again. My vision for my cardigan range is to illuminate the person wearing them.

I absolutely love styling my clothing, so please feel free to dm me on socials or via the contact page or pop into my store in Kiama for tips or even reassurance that you nailed it in the first place!

Thanks so much for supporting Hey Jude Designs- I hope these pieces bring you as much joy to wear as they do to create.

Love, Jude
